Troop 3: Meeting 16

Coordinators: Yati, Ain, Iqbal, Daniel

DIY Hand-Drum:
The Science Scouts, led by facilitator Yati, learned how to make their own hand-drum using everyday materials. The Science Scouts were first briefed on what to do and then in smaller groups, each led by a facilitator, the Science Scouts then constructed their hand-drum.

Construction begins with the frame which can be in any shape! A taut cellophane sheet is then glued on and what's next will be putting the holder and drum-beads in place. The Science Scouts then decorated their own hand-drums.

Science Scouts learned about the physics of sound and how different materials, shapes, and sizes will create hand-drums of varying sounds.

Science Scouts Mimi and Nik Nur Liyana diligently threading the beads for their hand-drums.

Science Scout Adam showing off his uniquely shaped hand-drum with the Petrosains logo!

Science Scouts Pavithiran and Desmond with their own creatively designed hand-drums!

Balloon Cannon:
Facilitator Iqbal then showed the Science Scouts how to make their very own balloon-cannon. The cannon is constructed of sturdy mounting board and launches a balloon projectile for safe, harmless (and science'y) fun!

Science Scouts learned about pressure, especially the building up of air pressure inside the balloon which will determine the force of the projectile's launch.

Science Scout Yen Khing hard-at-work constructing his balloon cannon.

Science Scout Ashvin and Li Xuan working side-by-side on the balloon cannon project.

Science Scout Adam all set to launch his projectile (although where is the balloon?).

The Science Scouts firing their balloon cannons simultaneously!
