Troop 2: Meeting 15

Coordinators:
Azni, Ain, Yati, Daniel

Activities:
- Circle of Energy:
  • This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage bonding.

- UV Beads:
  • The Science Scouts first learned about the light spectrum, specifically on ultraviolet light. Its implications and use is introduced and talked about, particularly with reference to UV rays from the sun.

  • After the discussion, Science Scouts were given two UV-sensitive beads that changes colour with exposure to UV rays. They used the beads in a variety of experiments at an array of activity tables. Activity tables included:

  1. Hidden from view: Putting different objects under UV light and see what appears (e.g. money).
  2. UV shields: Experiment with different fabrics and plastics and see whether they are able to protect the beads from UV exposure.
  3. UV protection: Experiment with sunblock with varying SPF's and see how they affect the beads exposure to UV.
  4. UV art: Draw using a variety of highlighter colours and see what happens when they are exposed to UV.

  • After the exploration, Science Scouts included their UV beads in a bracelet that they made with other beads and indirectly crafting their own portable UV detector. This activity also allowed Science Scouts to explore their artistic and creative sides.
