Troop 1: Meeting 2

Coordinators:
Dan, Ash, Ain, Jean, Greetha

Activities:
- Circle of Energy:
  • This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage bonding.

- F1 Straw Track:
  • This activity requires participants to build a race track for a toy car using only straws and tape. The track needs to be elevated and consist of at least one bend. The challenge is for participants to design a track that allows the car to move the furthest without toppling over.

Science Scouts busy constructing their F1 Straw Track.

- Silent Structures:
  • This is an activity designed to foster teamwork and communication while approaching concepts related to structure stability and design. Teams have to construct a structure made from paper rolls that can house a team member and is solid enough to survive a 1 metre drop. Structure must be freestanding.

A team is constructing their structure using paper rolls and masking tape.

It wasn't easy for the Science Scouts to do this in complete and utter silence!

- Take-Home Activity:
  • Scouts are given a sheet with 4 close-up shots of different objects. They are to guess what the objects are by observing visual details and deducing possible options.

Troop 1: Meeting 1

Coordinators:
Dan, Ash, Ain, Azni, Faiz

Activities:
- Draw!
  • This is a research based activity designed to gauge participants understanding of science by asking them to draw what science means to them. Results include elements of the natural world like trees and insects, manmade machines like rockets and symbolic representations of experiments.

- Circle of Energy
  • This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage bonding.

- Centre Walkabout
  • The Science Scouts had a walkabout in the centre to familiarise themselves with the place.

- Dominoes Activity
  • This activity requires participants to build a tower using domino blocks and place a Styrofoam cup with candy inside. The challenge is to use other domino blocks and then topple them to create a chain reaction that will collapse the tower. This activity highlights the concepts of energy transference.

The Science Scouts is shown here in the midst of the Dominoes Activity. The group is constructing the tower.
