Troop 4: Meeting 16

Troop Leaders: Qila, Azni, Yati, Daniel

Guest Facilitator: Nensi and Abang Kat

Senior Science Scouts: Khavishini, Darshwini, Ummeesh

The Petrosains Science Scouts became mini-chef's as they experienced kitchen-science themed activities. The first activity is to whip up a batch of royal icing and then decorate their own cupcake. Science Scouts learned first-hand the steps needed behind making icing.

Troop 4 then had an exciting time taking part in the interactive 'egg-citing' science show where the Science Scouts discovered how eggs are actually amazing engineering marvels of nature.

Science Scout Iman with her successfully cracked egg.

Who knew that eggs could be so interesting?

Success! The egg yolk is separated from the whites.

The egg whites are then thoroughly whisked.

Fluffy egg whites when thoroughly whisked stays in the bowl even when held upside down.

New Troop Leader Qila finds a moment to bond.

Icing sugar, vanilla essence, and colouring is then added to the whites and whisked again to get the icing.

Science Scout Adam tenderly lays on the icing on his cupcake.

Icing cupcakes can be a messy affair.

Science Scout Hakim takes an easy route by dunking the cupcake into the bowl of icing.

Deliciously fascinating.

Making is fun but eating it is better!

Jer Kent's final result!

The finished cupcakes are a delight!

Very messy business.

Alex with his bright blue cupcake!

Science Scout Aiman has a complex decorating pattern.

Troop 4: Meeting 15

Troop Leaders: Qila, Azni, Ash, Yati

Guest Facilitator: Senior Science Scout Ummeesh

Senior Science Scout and Science Scout of the Year 2008 Ummeesh took up the challenge and facilitated an entire meeting! Ummeesh conducted an activity to build a water wheel using everyday materials such as reusable plastic bottles, cork, wooden skewers, styrofoam and cellophane tape. The water wheel proved to be an excellent demonstration of how energy can be transformed!

Congratulations Ummeesh on an activity well done!
