Troop 4: Meeting 8

Troop Leaders: Yati, Ash, Ain

Senior Science Scouts: Ummeesh, Khavishini, Darshwini, Shaz, Desmond

Brr... it's a chilling meeting as Science Scouts explored all things cold and cool!

States of Matter
The Petrosains Science Scouts explored the 3 common states of matters namely solid, liquid and gas through an immersive physical activity.

Ice Cube Fishing
Science Scouts were challenged to fish for ice cubes with just a thread and salt! The unique effects of salt on ice is explored through a game-based experiment.

Dry Ice Experiment
Science Scouts watched a video which demonstrates unique science experiments using frozen carbon dioxide in solid form, more commonly known as dry ice.

Freeze Challenge

Science Scouts grabbed fistfuls of ice cubes and experienced the freezing sensation that's perceived by the sense of touch and subsequently pain. These biological reactions are discussed and the scientific principles behind our body and the cold are discussed.

Future Energy

Science Scouts had the chance to try out the latest exhibition area in Petrosains – Future Energy! They learned while interacting with the alternative energy games.

July Challenge!

It's been awhile since we had a monthly challenge so here's a big one for July!

In conjunction with our Toy Story 3 celebration in Petrosains, we want you to dig up your old toys (in parts and pieces) and using your creativity (and perhaps some glue), combine them together into an awesome new toy!

For example, you could combine the head of a dinosaur with the body of an action figure and perhaps instead of legs, use wheels! Have fun, do it safely, and show us the results. Remember to ask for help from Mom and Dad if you're using sharp and dangerous tools.

What We Want?
- A NEW toy made up of parts and pieces of old toys.

What Else Do We Want?
- A cool name for it and tell us why a kid (like Ash) would want to play with it.

When Do We Want It?
- Anytime from now until the end of July!

How Do You Show It?
- Bring it to a meeting. If you're from Troops 1-3, bring your new toy and you get to join in the meeting too! Please let us know in advance though.

We'll be asking you some questions when you show it to us so be prepared! For example, we really would want to know whether wheels or legs are better or would a man's body be able to support the head of a Tyrannosaurus Rex!

Troop 4: Meeting 7

Troop Leaders: Yati, Ash, Ain, Daniel

Senior Science Scouts: Jasraj, Ummeesh, Khavishini, Darshwini, Shaz, Zharif, Azhary, Desmond

It's an ALL TROOP meeting! With 4 Troops over 4 fun years, it's always great having everyone together. This time, it's the annual Science Olympics! In mixed troop teams, the Science Scouts explored physical science phenomenon and tested their science trivia in a series of games.

THE SCIENCE OLYMPICS

Slime Trail
The Science Scouts explored the unique properties of slime in the first challenge. With a small spoon, Science Scouts needed to move as much slime as they can across the track. Science Scouts will discover how slime can be as fluid as liquid and at times, acting fairly solid! A lot of slow motion spills add interest for the audience!

Cotton-Ball Relay
The Science Scouts then had to work as a team and like a conveyor belt, transport fluffy cotton balls one at a time using a spoon. Science Scouts discovered that fast forceful motions will result in the cotton ball drifting away so slow and deliberate actions are required.

Troop 3 members, Yen Khing and Adam focused on the transfer.

Spelling Bee
The Science Scouts expanded their science vocabulary by learning new terms and being challenged to spell them correctly!

True or False
The Science Scouts tested their science knowledge when they are required to decide whether the science statements given are true or false.

More photos coming up!

Meeting 7 Sneak Peek

Be prepared to get all sweaty and exhausted this Saturday!
Here's a clue...

...but not cycling! :)

Troop 4: Meeting 6

Troop Leaders: Yati, Ash

Senior Science Scouts: Jasraj, Ummeesh, Khavishini, Darshwini

Father's Day is next Sunday June 20 and the Troop 4 of Petrosains Science Scouts did an activity-based gifts that can be more fun than material gifts and create close family bonds and lasting memories.

Trophy for Dad

The Science Scouts did a multi-purpose Trophy for Dad by using paper cups and boxes decorated with gold and silver wrappers and a message on the trophy panel. The trophy itself can be used as a paper weigh while the top cup is a stationary container and the base of the trophy has a compartment for memo papers. Every dad is worthy of an award!
