Troop 1: Meeting 11

Activities
- Circle of Energy:
  • This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage bonding.

- Bamboo Dance
  • This is a new activity specially designed for thematic Camp In for primary students: ‘Art & Science Camp’. It is an interactive session with all science scouts which requires them to try the Bamboo Dance themselves. Bamboo Dance is popular in Sabah and also known as ‘mangunatip’. They learned two types of steps and managed to try to move the bamboo (pvc pipes). This activity also relates both art and science.

- Holey Puzzle
  • This activity is also a new activity specially designed for thematic Camp In (Inreach) for primary students. In this activity, the scouts will have to design their own ‘Holey Puzzle’ which is made from polystyrene. The science target of this program is for students to be able to engage with measurements. This activity also link with Year 4 Science’s syllabus and exposed new vocabularies/ terms to them which are diameter and radius. In terms of art, they did painting on the polystyrene based on their on design and creativity.

Troop 1: Meeting 10

Activities:
- Circle of Energy:
  • This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage bonding.

- Make Your Own Play Dough!:
  • This is an activity designed for families and the public for the coming school holidays. The Science Scouts, using provided materials such as wheat flour and PVA glue, made their own play dough which they coloured and later moulded into various alien creatures.



The Science Scouts are busy combining the ingredients to make their own play dough!

- Let’s Talk: The Science of Star Trek
  • Science Scouts listen and participate in a Let’s Talk session on the Science of Star Trek. Let’s Talk is a public science discussion forum that is usually held on the floor for the public during school holiday periods. In this session, the Scouts talked about propulsion and ‘warp’, as well as having a look at the Star Trek ship designs.



The Science Scouts are on the floor staring into a projection of space on the ceiling during the Let’s Talk session.

Activities:
- Circle of Energy:
This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage bonding.

- Space Trail Trial:
This is a centre-linked activity designed for youths and family groups. An activity sheet with a series of questions is given and participants must find the answers by visiting Geotime Diorama, Exploration and the new Space mini exhibition. The Scouts were given the activity sheets and allowed 45 minutes to explore the areas and locate the answers.

- Optical Illusion Cards
Science Scouts are given an origami style template for an optical illusion standee. They are required to cut out the templates, fold and adhere to create a unique optical illusion effect.
