Troop 3: Meeting 13

Coordinators: Ain, Daniel, Yati and Ash + The Petrosains R.A.P.'ers

H1N1 Precautions
In the interest of safety, all Science Scouts meetings now begin with a hand-washing regimen! All Science Scouts are also advised to stay home if they feel unwell.

Exploring Petrosains with the R.A.P.'ers!
The Science Scouts divided themselves into 4 groups, each led by a Petrosains R.A.P.'er! The R.A.P. members are participants of the Petrosains Research Apprenticeship Programme, a special initiative for undergraduate students interested to learn more about Social Science Research.

Each R.A.P. member led a Science Scouts group through the centre with the task of finding out what do the Science Scouts like and dislike about their visit!

ALL TROOPS MEETING: Big Sniff Day

Coordinators: Ain, Daniel, Iqbal and special guest, Nor Azhar

BIG SNIFF DAY!
This ALL TROOPS meeting explored a specially themed activity relating to the sense of smell.

In Big Sniff Day, Science Scouts first learned about the chemistry of scents. The science of perfumes were explained and key concepts introduced, such as how different scents are utilised and how scents can be identified as a top, middle or base note.

Science Scouts then had the opportunity to create their own perfume! From an array of 29 different essential scents, the Science Scouts mixed and matched the scents to create their own unique fragrance that they can bring home.

Finally, Science Scouts took part in a quiz to test their scents-knowledge and those with correct answers took home prizes.

The Science Scouts from Troops 1-3 all huddled to listen to Azhar's introduction to the chemistry of scents!

It's August!

Science Scouts! It's August already and very soon, some of you will be having your UPSR examinations. If you are feeling a little stressed out, don't miss our ALL TROOPS meeting on August 8 for some aromatheraphy!

This is also a reminder that monthly challenges are open to all troops! The challenge for August is:

- Do your own light painting at home! All you need is a digital camera that has an exposure setting of at least 4 seconds or over, a dark room, and a flashlight. Everyone has done this at a Science Scouts meeting so all you need is just a little exploring and perhaps, some online research! Send us your best light painting and tell us a little story about it and you'll get a badge for Investigating Technology!
