Science Scouts Attendance Alert!

This is a reminder to all Science Scouts that we take attendance very seriously and we expect full participation and commitment. One Science Scout from Troop 3 has been barred due to poor attendance. Once you are barred, you lose all membership privileges and you will not be invited to future meetings and gatherings.

The following Troop 3 Science Scouts are on Red Alert as they have missed 4 meetings so far. Maximum allowed absences is 5 but with reason. Be sure to keep us informed and updated via email or phone if you are unable to attend.

Troop 3: Meeting 9

Coordinators: Daniel Loy, Norhayati, Nurulain, M. Ashraf

Activities:

Invisible Forces:

This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage bonding.

Infection Connection:

The Science Scouts gathered to discuss the scientific fundamentals of human infections particularly H1N1 and learned about ways to minimise risk. Then a simple game is played to analogously demonstrate how highly infectious diseases can quickly spread in a population.

Science Scout Naren the target of infectious fingers!

Clucking Cup:

The Science Scouts explored concepts of energy conversion through the 'clucking cup'. Sound is created from friction generated by the rubbing motion against a piece of string. Science Scouts also explored their artistic side as they enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the cups.

Troop 3: Meeting 8

Coordinators: Daniel, Ash, Yati, Ain, Ayu

Activities:
- Circle of Energy:
  • This is an energiser activity to foster team cohesiveness and to encourage teamwork and cooperation.
- Motor Mania:
  • The Science Scouts explored the fundamentals of electronic circuitry by building a simple fan using batteries, wires, a motor and paper.

Success! The fan spins!

- Noreen Juliana Jiggler:
The Science Scouts explored concepts of energy conversion and electronic circuitry by building the 'jiggler'. An off-centre weight spun by the motor creates an interesting and erratic shudder that causes the simple build to 'jiggle' all over the place.

Ayu, Learning Specialist from the Centre of Learning briefs the Science Scouts on what to do.

Science Scouts intent on fitting 'legs' to their 'jiggler'!

Will it work? Only way to find out is to test it!

It's June!

Congratulations to Li Xuan and Liyana for completing the May challenge! Don't forget to get your badges from Ash at the next meeting!

For June, stand to earn an 'Investigating Living Things' badge when you complete this challenge:

"Tell us the difference between 'poison' and 'venom' and then provide 10 examples of poisonous living things and 10 examples of venomous living things."

As always, email your completed challenges by 30 June to Daniel or Yati! Good luck!
